The holiday that smells but has no taste

Tuesday, June 11th

Another day dawns and still no sign of the missing necklace.

Our flight was not until 5:50pm so we had plenty of time to do some more sightseeing before heading for the airport. We decided to walk to Tivoli Park where anticipated highlights were the Outdoor Gallery Jacobič Promenade and the International Centre for Graphic Art. So time for a bit of culture.

The outdoor gallery comprised pictures of Estonian heroes from previous Olympic Games. Not necessarily winners, but sportsmen and women who had done well. The promenade leads to the International Centre for Graphic Art which we entered for a look around.

One exhibit had sand on the floor with a clear path through so that you could experience the piece by walking through it. However, it appeared that someone, no doubt tipsy from the night before, and probably blonde, had zig zagged through leaving a trail of footprints in the sand. Sacre bleu! What vandalism! Later, outside, somebody who shall remain nameless, Joanie, was seen wiping their shoes on the grass to remove the incriminating red sand.

Even the loos were worth as visit as they had murals of electronic equipment on the walls. I always think it’s a sign of an interesting place when you start taking photos of the toilets!

Fiona said “It’s just like our sitting room”. What, toilet roll holders an’ all?

Not sure if this was an exhibit, but it looked interesting.

As we walked around the park we came across an ornamental lake and a café where we decided to have some lunch. The place was novel in that it had an electronic ordering system using tethered tablets.

So some of these eastern european countries are modernising rapidly.

Kathy does a good impression of a waitress.

Epilogue

Senior moments are often discussed on Dungroamin trips as we try to ascertain whether they are on the increase as we approach our dotage. It might be expected that it is an affliction for the olders members of our group. However on this trip, it appears to have seriously affected the youngest of our group, Fiona. How could that be, you might say? Well, it relates to the saga of the necklace, for which Jerry and Fiona had spent some considerable time searcing and over which they had had protracted discussions with the hotel management. Turns out the necklace was never in Slovenia at all; it was safely back at home in Cuckfield!
