Friday 10th June

After being restricted during the Covid pandemic and needing to regain our confidence in international travel, for our first trip away we decided to explore the far-flung areas of Wiltshire together with the exciting out-posts of adjacent Berkshire.

Our destination was Littlecote House just outside Hungerford which is run by Warners who are reknown for providing facilities suited to the older gneration. Whilst we are of course not old, we thought we should investigate the quality and extent of the facilities available for when we do become old codgers.

A good early sign - very clear sign posts.

There was an attractive courtyard garden.

Upon arrival in mid-afternoon, we discovered the rest of the group as expected in the bar. Some of us suggested that these places have similarities with cruise ships, in that whilst there of lots of people staying there, there are enough things for people to do such that it doesn't feel over-crowded.

We had all made our own reservations, so when we went for dinner there had to be some serious negotiation by the Dungroamin Management Team to arrange for us all to be able to sit together.

As we were nearing completion of our dinner, we were surprised by the arrival of Geraint . . . . that is surprised that he had come, not that he was late!

The waiters in these places appeared to be fully trained to provide a mobility scooter valet service. Arrive at the restaurant on your scooter, take your seat and the waiter will park your scooter. When you want to leave, your scooter magically appears.

In the evening, there was entertainment in the large auditorium which was very full of guests. This was fine by us, as it meant there was seaing available in the bar.
