North Wales

This was the first year for Steve and Jean. And what an initiation – it snowed! We arrived at our camp–site location and, as it was snowing, decided to go down the pub instead of setting up camp. The snow eventually stopped and so we went back to our camp–site to put up our tents; digging the snow out from inside as we went. That night, Jerry says he has never been so cold.

The weather was fine the next day, so we decided to climb Snowdon. This proved to be more dangerous than expected, and Alan at one point had Jean tethered to a rope (to stop her disappearing over the edge – honest!). He also jumped on a young lady who appeared to be out of control, sliding down the mountain side. She did not seem to appreciate his good intentions.

We decided to climb Snowdon, but the only place to park was here, and Alan and Jerry ended up with parking tickets.

Coming down Snowdon. It was steep and slippery. I think this is the infamous moment when Alan jumped onto a young lady to stop her careering over the edge – much to her disgruntlement, apparently not assessing her degree of danger to be the same as Alan had.

We have arrived in Betws-y-Coed.
