We hired a beautiful cottage in the Rhiedol Valley in Wales. The owners had just finished refurbishing it. Shame they had to let it to us first, as we were not very good tenants.
The first thing that went wrong was when Martin decided to light a lovely open fire. Unfortunately the chimney caught alight and we had to quickly subdue the fire before things got too bad and the burning chimney was brought under control.
Next was when Alan went outside to see if he could find a washing line. There was a handy peice of rope between two trees, but it seemed at the wrong angle. Alan thought he could improve it, and undid the rope. One of the trees fell over. Ooops!
Then the pièce de résistance was when we were packing up and Jonathan decided to put the plug in an upstairs wash–basin and turn the taps on. The new owners arrived for us to hand back the cottage only to find water pouring through the ceiling. Ooops again!
