Sunday 12th June

We did not need to get to the airport until later in the afternoon, so we had some time and decided to walk up to the town gate (called the Gates of Dawn) which we had paused at during our guided tour, but we thought there was more to see both there and on the way.

As in most of the European capitals, they seem to have plenty of churches.

When it was time to get back the airport, we ordered some taxis from the hotel. Three taxis duly arrived, we all bundled in and were whisked to the airport. Again we had no strategy for paying and tipping the drivers, but it ended up with us paying €7.00, €6.41 and €6.50 (£5.70, £5.20 and £5.30); all these prices were less than we had paid when we arrived.

We leave, quite surprised that the longer we stayed, the cheaper things got.

So well done, Vilnius, you really have been the best place not to be ripped off.
