We had to get up early to catch the ferry to Trogir. This meant we were down the road at HAMI's for breakfast at 7:30, much to the surprise no doubt of the woman who ran it.
On our way down to the harbour, we passed again the statue of Gregory of Nin. It is meant to be lucky to touch his toe, but research on Tripadviser identifies at least one person who has touched his toe and still has not won the lottery!
Straight through the castle and we are on the quayside ready to pick up the ferry to Saltire and Trogir. The fare was 35 Kuna each way (about £4). The sea was very calm, so no problem for those without any sea–legs.
So blue sky, blue sea – great.
Once we had landed at Trogir, we walked into the town to find a place to have coffee. This was near another bell tower offering the chance for another climb up the interior. This time Jerry chickened out after his preious bell tower experience. So it was left to Alan and Chris to brave the tower. Again the stairs were a bit hairy, and it was amusing to see how the confidence of the tourists climbing the tower dropped as they reached the final climb through a trap–door at the top. There were quite a few white knuckles as people desperately gripped the minimal handrails that existed.
On the way up we came across a couple of scruffy pigeons on a bell tower ledge which Chris pointed out were squabs – their feather development being insufficient for them to fly.
Whilst Chris and Alan were ascending the bell tower, the others found a variety of shady spots to sit and while away the time whilst enjoying a beer or an iced tea.
We had to catch the 2:30pm ferry back, but there was just time to grab a quick lunch. Alan had spotted a decent looking pizza restaurant up a side street, and we descended on this on the basis that they said they could produce some pizzas in double quick time.
They were true to their word and we duly caught the ferry back.
Once back in Split, we stopped off at the Peristil Hotel inside the castle for a drink. As the menu looked OK we booked our evening meal at the partner restaurant called Tiffany's which was adjacent but outside the enclosed courtyard.
So we rounded off the day with a decent meal at Tiffany's (they do good breakfasts, apparently!).
