Our taxi to the airport!

Tuesday 20th June

Due to our flight time, it was another early breakfast at HAMI's. We arrived a 6am, but the lady was there and we had our toasties, orange juice and tea.

Apart from Jerry and Fiona, who were doing their own thing to Gatwick, the rest of us asked the receptionist at the apartments to book us a taxi to the airport. But we were a little surprised when a taxi covered in slogans for a table–dancing club turned up dead on our 7:30am depart time. Nevertheless, we all piled in and set off.

The driver did not speak good English and his speech was not helped by having a stutter. He seemed to be talking about 700 Euros, which was a bit disconcerting, as it was about 10 times the fare we had agreed.

After a while taking in the situation and wondering why we were in a taxi with “Dolls Table Dancing” plastered all over it, Alan asked “We are going to the airport, aren't we?”

The driver, perhaps sensing our nervousness, decided to use his phone to translate and all became clear. He received 700 Euros to have the adverts on his taxi and he got 30 Kuna for every person he introduced to the table–dancing club.

The rest of the journey was more relaxed, once we had sorted that out.
