We all met up at Luton ready for our flight to Split in Croatia. Split is the second–largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia; it lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea.
Prior to leaving we had discussed booking our transfer in advance; the appartment receptionist had quoted a figure of €80 (about £70) for the ten of us, which seemed pretty reasonable. However, we decided not to book this as one of our party, who had been to Split before, had stated “I think we could easily grab a 12 seater minibus outside the airport for less”. Outside the airport, we were quoted a price of €120 and it was only after a bit of negotiation that we managed to get it down to €100! Obviously our negotiation skills fell some way short of expectations.
On arrival at our apartments, the receptionist offered us cherries and water, which was very civil of him. The rooms were rather bijou but quite adequate for a short weekend. There was a useful large window sill, which, by providing space to store a suitcase, enabled one to walk around both sides of the bed.
We asked the receptionist if he could recommend somewhere to eat and he suggested Chops Grill, so after settling into our rooms, we set off to find his eating emporium. When we got there it was fully booked, so we walked around the corner and found somewhere which still had plenty of spaces. The high speed of our decision making here was possibly a new record as we normally pride ourselves on wandering around aimlessly for as long as possible. The place we found was a lot cheaper than the recommended Chops Grill and we ended up paying 500 Kuna per couple for our meal and drinks which was about £62.50 including the tip.
